Career Highlights
- In his major-league debut (July 19, 1960), Juan Marichal pitches no-hit ball for seven innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. Marichal winds up with 12 strikeouts, allows one-hit in a 2-0 win.
- On June 15, 1963, Juan Marichal became the first Latino in Major League Baseball history to pitch a no-hitter.
- On May 26, 1966, Giants pitcher Juan Marichal pitches 14 innings in a 1-0 win over Philadelphia
- Struck out 2,303 batters in his 16 year career.
- Completed 30 games in 1968 -- #1 in the A.L.
- Appeared in nine All-Star games -- was the All-Star MVP in 1965.
- Led the National League in ERA in 1969 (2.10)
- Led the National League in shutouts in 1965 (8) and 1969 (10)
- Made his only World Series appearance in 1962 against the Yankees and struck out four in four innings.
- Was second in winning percentage as a N.L pitcher in 1969 (.743).
- Led the National League in wins in 1963 (25) & 1968 (26).
- Won 20 or more games six times.
- Batted .250 in 1966 with 1 home run and 15 RBIs.
- Retired from ML Baseball on April 17, 1975
- Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
- Is the first & only Dominican native in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- Became the "Minister of Sports" in the Dominican Republic after he retired.
