In a jam-packed Madison Square Garden arena, Oscar De La Hoya proved that he was back to his championship ways and demonstrated a new and aggressive style of boxing. "I set my goals for the year 2000 to have four fights and have four KO's and Coley was going to be my first", said De La Hoya. In round four Coley had his best round by delivering a flurry of punches that wobbled De La Hoya momentarily. De La Hoya then finished off the round strong with his own flurry of punches which almost knocked out Coley. In round six Coley was in severe trouble by a devastating left hook to the chin and body. De La Hoya's body attack clearly had a effect on Coley who looked slow and not willling to receive anymore of De La Hoya's constant hooks to the body. Coley's right eye began to swell rapidly and by the start of the seventh round it was nearly closed shut. In round seven it was all De La Hoya when several left hooks to the ribs put Coley down on his knees and he stood there not wanting to continue the fight. |
