November 28, 2007 -- Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees have agreed on a $30 million marketing package based on home-run achievements.

That could raise the total value of Rodriguez's new contract to $305 million over 10 years.

Under the agreement, which remains to be finalized, Rodriguez could receive $6 million each time he ties the home-run levels of Willie Mays (660), Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds (762). He would get an additional $6 million for breaking Bonds' major league record which currently stands at 762.

A-Rod, whose team was eliminated in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, announced during Game 4 of the World Series, that he will opt out of the final three years of his 10-year, $252-million contract. Two weeks after that he had privately gone back to the Yankees (without agent Scott Boras) and said he wanted to re-sign with the club.

Rodriguez won the third American League Most Valuable Player award of his career after hitting .314 with 54 homers and 156 RBIs during the 2007 season.

Rodriguez, 32, currently has 518 career home runs and will need 245 home runs to surpass Barry Bonds.
