Cotto & Miranda win big in Puerto RicoWritten by www.latinosportslegends.com
Cotto, used what he is known to do best, punish the body, and stopped Urkal in the 11th when his corner threw in the towel after his fighter was penalized a point for head-butting. "The blood helped him survive," said Cotto, referring to a cut over his left eye from a head butt. "The blood bothered me." Cotto was in control the entire fight and was leading in all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage. The victory cleared the way for Cotto's June 9 bout at New York's Madison Square Garden against former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah, who watched from ringside. In the co-feature on HBO, hard-hitting middleweight boxer from Colombia, Edison "Pantera" Miranda (28-1) went for the knockout even though he was well ahead on the judges' scorecards in claiming a unanimous 10-round decision against previously unbeaten Allan Green (23-1) of Tulsa. Green, who seemed to be concerned about Pantera's power, did not seem willing to trade punches with the hard hitting Miranda. As a result, Miranda chased him around the entire night winning almost every round. Although Pantera was decked by Green's left hook in the eighth round, he came back with a vengeance giving boxing fans their money's worth. In the final round, he knocked Green down two times showing the true sign of a champion. At one point, Green had no other choice but to hold onto Miranda's legs pulling his trunks down during the process. After barely getting up, Green was hit again in the head with another solid shot with only one second left. Many experts feel the fight should have been stopped after the second knockdown. All three judges scored the fight in favor of Miranda: 97-90 and 96-91 twice. With this big win, Pantera is now positioned even closer to a showdown with Jermain Taylor which he badly wants.
