Celebration honoring Tito Trinidad to be held in  Puerto Rico.

July 10, 2002 -- Former five-time champion, Felix "Tito" Trinidad will get an official  celebration in his native country of Puerto Rico honoring him for his accomplishments in boxing.

His retirement celebration has been set for Sunday, July 21st at Hiram Bithron stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico at 10:00am.

The entire Trinidad camp will attend the festivities including several well known Latin orchestras like El Gran Combo, La Sonora Ponceña, Grupomanía among others.

Last week, Tito Trinidad (41-1, 34 knockouts) and his father/manager Don Felix decide to retire from boxing because they felt there are no quality opponents for Tito to fight.

"Tito has finished his career healthy, with a brilliant record and thanks to God with an economic future that guarantees peace for him and his family for the rest of his life," said Trinidad Sr.

Trinidad, who is considered a national hero in Puerto Rico, won his first 40 fights before losing to Bernard Hopkins on a 12th-round TKO in their middleweight unification title fight at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 29.

Trinidad easily won his last fight on May 11 in Puerto Rico against Hacine Cherifi of France.

After the Cherifi fight, Trinidad was seeking a rematch with Hopkins and Oscar de la Hoya, who he defeated in 1999, but both of them rejected his offers.

Recently, the undisputed middleweight champion, Hopkins voiced his interest in a rematch with Tito sometime in November or December.
