September 5, 2002 -- Latino shortstop of the Texas Rangers, Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez could add another award to his list for 2002, as he was named American League Player of the Month, for the month of August.

Rodriguez captured his second consecutive Player of the Month Award after hitting .339 (37-for-109) with 24 runs, four doubles, 27 RBIs, a .706 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage in 27 games.

The quarter-billion dollar man has been on a offensive tear the past few months and is currently leading the league in several batting categories.

A-Rod leads the Major League with 48 home runs and 121 RBIs.

Rodriguez was the first winner of the award in consecutive months since Cleveland’s Albert Belle won in August and September of 1995.

During the week of August 11th, A-Rod received "AL Player of the Week" honors with his 1.429 slugging percentage, 9 runs, 30 total bases, 6 home runs and 11 RBIs in five games.

His total of 48 homers already ranks second among shortstops in baseball history, surpassed only by his 52 a year ago, and he is vying to become only the fifth player in Major League history to post consecutive 50-homer seasons.
