November 10, 2002 -- One of the most recognized bachelor in sports is no longer on the market.

Last weekend, Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez married his longtime girlfriend Cynthia Scurtis according to a report in The Dallas Morning News.

Rodriguez, 27, and Scurtis were married Saturday in a small ceremony in Dallas, the Rangers said. A reception was conducted at his home in Highland Park, an upscale Dallas suburb. Among the guests were former
Baltimore star Cal Ripken Jr., Rodriguez's boyhood idol.

Scurtis, formerly a high school psychology teacher in Miami, has been dating A-Rod for several years before he popped the question.

Rodriguez, who is from Miami, but his parents are from the Dominican Republic, is a very private person and kept the news of his wedding away from the public.

The all-star shortstop of the Texas Rangers signed a record $252 million, 10-year deal with them back in December 2000. That deal still stands as the most lucrative contract in sports.
