The announcement was made yesterday by the "Commission of Professional Boxers of Puerto Rico" and the award is named the Frank Parrilla, "Boxer of the Year Award". Tito has won the award three times already and is the second year in a row he's won the award. He also won the award in 1994. The award was establish in 1985 and since then several great Puerto Rican boxers have won the award. Edwin "El Chapo" Rosario (1986), Wilfredo Vazquez (1987, 96-97) and John John Molina (1988,89) to name a few. Also, Tito's father, "Don Felix" was named "Trainer of the Year" "I feel more happy about the award they gave Tito because of him they gave me mine. Tito deserves all the awards they give here and outside of Puerto Rico" said Don Felix, trainer and manager of Felix Trinidad. Tito's first fight of 2000 was on March 3rd against the tough and strong David Reid, a former Olympic gold medallist. David Reid came into the fight with an 14-0 record and held the WBA super welterweight title. David Reid fought tough, but couldn't withstand the power punches of Trinidad. Trinidad wins by unanimous decision to become the new WBA super welterweight champion (Click here for full story). His second fight came on July 22nd against Mamadou Thiam in Florida. Thiam was no match for Trinidad and quit in the fourth round after Trinidad swelled his left eye shut (Click here for full story). Trinidad's last fight of 2000 came on December 2nd against a valiant Fernando Vargas, former undefeated IBF super middleweight champion.
