Trinidad earned his spot in the finals by knocking out William Joppy (TKO 5) on May 12th to gain the WBA middleweight title giving him the right to face Hopkins. Hopkins reached the finals by defeating Keith Holmes on April 14th (unanimous decision) which added the WBC belt to his IBF title. The Trinidad-Hopkins winner will be heralded as the first undisputed middleweight champion since Marvelous Marvin Hagler held the prestigious title 15 years ago.
